Does South Carolina Medicaid Cover Chiropractic Care?
Yes. South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid provides limited coverage for chiropractic care when program requirements are met.
Current South Carolina Medicaid policy allows eligible beneficiaries up to six chiropractic visits per state fiscal year. Covered chiropractic manipulation is limited to specific spinal manipulation services, and unused visits do not carry over into the following year.
South Carolina Medicaid also limits the chiropractic services for which it reimburses, so coverage may be different from what patients are accustomed to with many commercial insurance plans.
What Chiropractic Services Does Medicaid Cover?
Under the current South Carolina Medicaid physician-services policy, reimbursable chiropractic manipulation is limited to spinal chiropractic manipulative treatment.
Coverage does not necessarily mean that every chiropractic service, therapy, exercise, soft-tissue treatment, laser treatment, or other service offered by a chiropractic office will be paid by Medicaid.

Soda City Chiropractic is not currently a participating South Carolina Medicaid chiropractic provider.
Soda City Chiropractic does not currently participate with South Carolina Healthy Connections Medicaid because the chiropractic benefit is more limited than the type of care we frequently provide in our office.
South Carolina Medicaid currently limits chiropractic coverage to six visits per state fiscal year. At Soda City Chiropractic, treatment often involves more than spinal adjustments alone.
Depending on a patient's examination and needs, care may also include:
Extremity adjustments for areas such as the shoulders, hips, knees, ribs, or feet
Soft-tissue and muscle work
Therapeutic and corrective exercises
Mobility and rehabilitation work
Light or laser therapy when appropriate
These additional services are often an important part of how we approach musculoskeletal conditions, but they may not be included in Medicaid's chiropractic benefit. Our light therapy treatments are also not covered by insurance.
Because our approach frequently involves a broader combination of chiropractic care, soft-tissue work, exercise, extremity care, and other services, Soda City Chiropractic has chosen not to participate with Medicaid at this time.
